Kyang Tong
Described as the most scenic town in the Shan
State, 456 km north-east of Taunggyi, 163 km north of the border
town of Tachileik (opposite Mae Sai, Thailand) and 787 m above
sea level, is Kyaing tong, the sleepy but historic centre for
the state's Khun culture, surrounded by Wa, Akha and Lahu
villages. The mixture of different ethnic cultures adds the
diversity to the cultural practices of the area. During the
British occupation, the British used it as an outpost and there
are still old churches around the city.
